profile October 2017 Smart Business Pittsburgh 17 Photography provided by The Frick Pittsburgh AN IMPROVED EXPERIENCE As East Libertys development spills out to other Pittsburgh neighborhoods in the East End The Fricks physical property has been transformed with a new public entrance on the north side Langel says it better connects the museum to the new activity The museum is also completing a mobile landscape app which provides information about the trees buildings and the sites developmental history Other recent additions include walking paths to help visitors appreciate the grounds and more than 50 species of plants and better directional signage Weve been spending the past two three years laying the groundwork to make The Frick more convenient to visit give the visitors the information they need to make the most of their visit here and to expand the infrastructure that accommodates these visitors Langel says The Frick is in the midst of a series of fashion focused exhibitions with the latest opening later this month on Oct 21 Undressed A History of Fashion in Underwear explores the world of underwear design from the 18th century to the present day and focuses on high end designers It runs until Jan 7 2018 and The Frick is the exclusive North American venue for the exhibition organized by Londons Victoria Albert Museum Last year The Frick hosted Killer Heels The Art of the High Heeled Shoe which drew more than 24000 people over 12 weeks That was the highest attendance the museum has had for an exhibition in the past decade Langel says It makes sense for The Frick to present fashion exhibitions because the museum has a large archive of material objects beyond fine and decorative art he says We also have the Fricks clothing furnishings and tableware But our textile collection is quite vast and because of the Fricks resources they were buying the top high fashion clothing at the turn of the 20th century Langel says The fashion exhibitions also widen the museums appeal The Pittsburgh Post Gazette called the Killer Heels opening gala the fashion event of the year and theres a lot of interest in fashion as art today he says While the fashion series is new exhibitions are not The Frick Art Museum has presented exhibitions for years and several of those gained international attention An upcoming show will feature French Impressionist and Post Impressionist work from artists like Paul Cézanne Edgar Degas Édouard Manet and Claude Monet Van Gogh Monet Degas The Mellon Collection of French Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art runs from March 17 to July 8 2018 Were continuing to present these high quality fine art exhibitions but were also claiming a place in the world of fashion exhibitions Langel says EXHIBITION BUZZ U N I QU E LY P I T TSBURGH
